About Modern Image Formats: WebP & AVIF

WebP and AVIF are modern image formats that deliver excellent quality at significantly smaller file sizes than traditional formats like JPG and PNG. Smaller files help pages load faster and improve Core Web Vitals.

WebP: Great balance of quality, compression, and compatibility (widely supported across modern browsers).

AVIF: Even better compression for photos and gradients, ideal when maximum size reduction is needed.

PNG: Best for graphics with transparency or sharp edges (logos, UI elements).

JPG: Good for photos when you need broad compatibility, but larger than WebP/AVIF.

Tip: Use WebP as your default on the web; try AVIF for the smallest sizes. Keep PNG for transparent graphics, and JPG for legacy use cases.
